The first chapter of Svatmarama’s Hatha yoga Pradipika, „Prathamo Padeshah“, is about diet and physical exercises (Asanas).

Hatha Pradipika

hatha (हठ, haṭha) = Name of the described yoga style, Sun Moon
yoga (योग, yoga) = Yoga
pradipika (प्रदिपिका, pradipikā) = illumination, bright light

padangushthau tu panibhyam grihitva shravanavadhi |"
dhanur akarshanam kuryad dhanur-asanam uchyate ||27||

पादाङ्गुष्ठौ तु पाणिभ्यां गृहीत्वा श्रवणावधि ।"
धनुर् आकर्षणं कुर्याद् धनुरासनम् उच्यते ॥२७॥

pādāṅguṣṭhau tu pāṇibhyāṁ gr̥hītvā śravaṇāvadhi ।"
dhanur ākarṣaṇaṁ kuryād dhanur-āsanam ucyate ॥27॥

Die großen Zehen mit den Händen hoch zu den Ohren ziehen, |
[dabei] die Biegung eines Bogens ausführen, [das] wird Dhanurasana genannt. ||27||


pādāṅguṣṭhau = große Zehe
tu gr̥hītvā = halten, ziehen
pāṇibhyām = mit den Händen
śravaṇa = Ohren
avadhi = hoch zu

dhanus = von einem Bogen
ākarṣaṇam = Biegung
kuryāt = ausführen
dhanurāsanam = Dhanurasana, die Bogen-Position, Name der Position
