What to expect in this video
In this video, Ronald is joined by yoginis Kumiko and Ines to show you a special form of the Sun Salutaiton using the seat of a chair. Kumiko demonstrates the special form while Ines shows a more traditional version of the sequence. When you practice on the edge of a chair the focus is shifted to spinal mobility rather than strength. The softness of this practice allows you to pay special attention to your breath. This deep, complete breath promotes the softness in the spine.
More spinal mobility
This particular form of the sun salutation helps you to find a balance between strength and flexibility. The traditional form lays more focus on strength. However, as strength increases, flexibility decreases. Using the seat of a chair, you require less strength to practice. This gives you a chance to focus on flexibility and softness. Convince yourself of the benefits of this special form: you may be surprised how flexible the spine can become after practicing this form for a while.
Lower impact for shoulders and wrists
The Sun Salutations on the seat of a chair are a great form for people dealing with shoulder or wrist issues. Because you are placing less pressure on the arms, practicing with the chain can allow you to continue to practice while you rest the shoulders and wrists.
For whon is this video?
This special form of the Sun Salutation is particularly interesting for those with issues in the shoulders or wrists. It helps to reduce the pressure on the areas of concern. This form is also a great way to build spinal mobility. Just try it out. If you practice this form over a period of time, you will notice how the flexibility of the spine increases every day, and that you start to tune more into your breath than before.
