nirmana chittany asmita matrat ||4||

निर्माणचित्तान्यस्मितामात्रात् ॥४॥

nirmāṇa-cittāny-asmitā-mātrāt ||4||

The mutable self (chitta) is engendered solely by identification with that which is mutable. ||4||

nirmana (निर्माण, nirmāṇa) = (iic.) create; generate; bring forth
chittani (चित्तानि, cittāni) = (acc. pl. n./nom. pl. n. from chitta (चित्त, citta)) chitta; all that is mutable in humankind; mind
asmitah (अस्मिताः, asmitāḥ) = (acc. pl. f./nom. pl. f. from asmita (अस्मिता, asmitā)) self centeredness; identification with that which is mutable in humankind
matrat (मात्रात्, mātrāt) = (abl. sg. m. from matra (मात्र, mātra)) alone
